and Oncology Associates Practice Administrator, Fay Von Deck, Laura
Stevenson-Flom, ECHO Cancer Foundation Executive Director, and
John Von Deck.
On Valentine’s Day, February 14,
2004, dozens of patients at Eastern Connecticut Hematology and
Oncology received
a heart-warming gift: warm, cuddly polar fleece neck pillows.
CuzWeCare, a new non-profit organization, dedicated to bring comfort
to cancer patients delivered their inaugural shipment of beautiful
handmade pillows to patients undergoing cancer treatments. CuzWeCare
was formed in 2004 when John and Fay Von Deck realized that there
were many high school students, seniors and girls scout troops
who cared about patients that they may never know. These volunteers
are busy making pillows and pillowcases, chemo caps, and afghans
to let patients know that someone is thinking about them. The Von
Decks’ said that “since they care so much for others,
and since we care for both the patients and the volunteers, “CuzWeCare” was
born.”
