John and Faye Von Deck, founders of CuzWeCare, load up
Laura’s car with a new supply of soft, cuddly neck rolls
for the patients at Eastern Connecticut Hematology. The pillows
are available at the office to help make the seemingly endless
hours of treatments more comfortable.
CuzWeCare is a non-profit organization that was created in 2004
when John and Fay realized that there were many high school students,
seniors and girls scout troops who cared about patients that they
may never know. These volunteers are busy making pillows and pillowcases,
chemo caps, and afghans to let patients know that someone is thinking
about them. The Von Decks said that “since they care
so much for others, and since we care for both the patients and
the volunteers, “CuzWeCare” was born.”
